I know that’s saying a lot for these actors, but they are truly white lighting with their lacerating witticisms and indulgent slapstick antics. * “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” – A criminally overlooked crime-comedy from the creator of “Lethal Weapon,” starring Robert Downey Jr. You see, the problem is that nefarious forces have assured that it isn’t Santa they’ve brought back into the world, but his evil counterpart, Krampus! It’s up to a precocious hockey-padded young lad to save his father, his farm and a herd of reindeer. Sure, he’s an immortal myth and he lives on in all the classic carols, but this film proposes the unnerving consequences of actually exhuming a sort of Yuletide demigod.
* “Rare Exports” – A Finnish fantasy/horror film where miners may have uncovered the burial site of the actual Santa Claus. There are so many Christmas movies that you’ve seen a hundred times, but we’ve got a list that sufficiently shakes up the sleigh and rears the reindeer off toward quirkier, offbeat horizons. Meanwhile, major cable networks are likely playing the same old movies, like “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” Chevy Chase’s “Christmas Vacation” or maybe the old Rank & Bass claymation specials. Whenever the two big holidays come around, be it Halloween or Christmas, the typical films like “Nightmare on Elm Street” and “It’s a Wonderful Life” start seeing higher circulation numbers.
